"Selah"
There is some debate about the meaning of this Hebrew word in the Psalms, which is why many modern Bible translations simply say, "The meaning of this word is uncertain. It may be a musical or liturgical direction." However, many scholars rightly argue that this word always occurs in places where a pause to reflect on the message of the verse is appropriate. We have called our house "Selah House" because we want it to be a place to pause from the busyness of life … to reflect on God's goodness and to rest in His provision. We hope this will be true for you whenever you stay here!
Welcome to your Waipu getaway
Arrival and Departure
Generally, you should be able to get into the house after 2 pm. That means if you’re in the house, please clean and leave by 2 pm. We’ll let you know if something changes with this time and feel free to ask if you would like to stay later. It is super flexible!
Parking
You are welcome to park on any of the concrete areas. Please don’t park in the garage. Street parking is not encouraged. You are welcome to park a caravan on the drive, though long-term caravans are not allowed by our neighbourhood covenant.
Church
Maungakaramea Reformed Church is 35 minutes north of here. Worship begins at 11 am. Directions and contact information are in the Selah House Folder. https://northshore.rcnz.org.nz/maungakaramea-reformed-church/
Entertainment Inside
There is a small range of books, games and puzzles at the house. We have unlimited fibre internet (though not the fastest speed) and an old Wii are on hand. We have a permanent Disney+ account logged into the Black Lounge TV for movies and entertainment. The White Lounge TV can connect to the desktop computer which allows online games, youtube and movies. The garage hosts table tennis and a foosball table (please supervise small children as there are tools and glass bottles stored in the garage). We don't have many little people items yet, so bring some favourites from home.
MoreEntertainment Outside
Green Estate Drive is a lovely, quiet neighbourhood with many options within walking distance. Shops and restaurants are a street away. Playgrounds, fields and even a small skate park are very close. So, bring your scooters, skateboards and other ‘wheels.’ At night, enjoy the gorgeous, clear night sky without the haze of the city lights!
Further afield, Bream Bay hosts many beautiful beaches, some waterfalls and even caves! Whangarei’s attractions are a 35-minute drive north, while Mangawhai Heads’ beaches are 25 minutes south.
